2012 SWAMP CABBAGE FESTIVAL PARADE
Information:
Bridge Street will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 8:00 a.m. Entries are
welcome to begin arriving then. You MUST be in your assigned spot by 9:30 a.m.
Those entries that arrive later will automatically forfeit their assigned position and will
be added to the rear of the lineup before the horses. Please enter the parade route at the
corner of East Lincoln and Main Street and proceed North to your assigned location. There will be parade representatives along the route with location information.
When you arrive:
1. Have your confirmation letter and your position number with you.
2. Once you reach your assigned location with the parade representative, move
directly to the appropriate area of the parade route.
3. When you have found your position please move your entry to the side of the
street immediately as the center must remain clear for parade staff and other
entries seeking their positions.
4. Please be sure that all participants in the parade on your entry’s behalf have
read and are familiar with the parade rules and policies. A copy of these
rules and policies are available from any parade staff member.
5. A staff member will signal when your entry should move out.
6. Once you begin moving, keep ONE car length between you and the entry in
front of you. Do not tailgate and do not stop unless directed by parade or
emergency vehicles.
Please note:
1. General traffic in not permitted on the parade route anytime between 8:30 a.m.
and 30 minutes after the completion of the parade.
2. Please do not move roadblocks or other traffic control devices on the parade
route without permission from a parade official. If permission is given, please
replace the device as you originally found it.
3. Please be extremely careful of pedestrians and other parade units while moving
throughout the parade route. No squealing of tires.
4. In case of an emergency, parade staff members are equipped with phones and/or
radios.
After the Parade:
1. Please exit the parade route via Park Avenue to the left, then South on Main St.
2. Do not block any street with your entry.
3. Do not attempt to enter the park with your entry unless you have made prior
arrangements with a Swamp Cabbage Festival Park Activities Official.
4. Again, please be extremely careful of pedestrians and other entries leaving the
parade route as traffic will be quite heavy during this time.

PLEASE READ AND RETAIN THESE RULES
PRIMARY RULES
** Candy can be tossed to the edge of the crowd, but NOT THROWN into the crowd
** Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on parade entries.
**Vending (selling) from entries is not permitted.
**NO Political signs on floats. You will be asked to remove them or risk being removed
from the parade.
** All float entries must have the traditional Sabal Palm Fronds lining the sides of
their base in full view.
***There will be NO music played once you are lined up in your designated
parade location until you reach the starting position of the parade route.
You can do immediate fine tuning but no continuous music until you
reach the Catholic Church which is the starting point of the parade.
** This new rule is due to the parade staff needing to communicate during
the Parade set up.
JUDGED ENTRY RULES
***Your judging number is your “assigned position number” in the parade line-up.
***All entries being judged must have their position number on the right front side of
the entry. It is your responsibility to place this number on your entry if you
want to be entered in the judging.
***All entries MUST follow the “Theme” of the parade in order to be judged.
***Parade entries can view their position location from the Swamp Cabbage website @
swampcabbagefestival.org. The line-up information will be updated as needed.

GENERAL RULES
**Entries should be within 1 car length of each other at all times and WALKING
entries MUST keep up and not cause delays by the handing out of items.
**Entries may not pass each other without permission from a parade official.
**Non-Parade vehicles are restricted from entering the parade without the direct
consent of the parade Chairman.

RULES FOR “FREE ROAMING ENRIES”
** First and foremost, do not interfere with the movement of floats or other entries such
as cars, swamp buggies, etc.
** Parade staff, pedestrians, Police, and walking units have the right of way at all times.
** Limit your speed to 5-10 mph when on the parade route unless told otherwise by a
parade official.
** When traversing the parade route before and after the parade, please keep to one side
of the street. Do not travel in the center of the street. The center is reserved for
floats and parade staff only.
** Please remember that the parade staff is there for you and the public’s safety and to
ensure the parade runs as smoothly as possible. Please follow their directions at
all times. If you have any doubt as to a staff member’s authority, please ask to see
Joyce McLeod, Chairman of the Parade committee.
OTHER HELPFUL INFORMATION
All SCF parade golf cards are quipped with hand held radios to contact any member of the parade staff.
All parade staff will have an approved copy of the parade line-up and parade rules. You
should initially consult with one of these staff members on any questions.
If for some reason you are in need of Police, Fire, or EMS personnel, members of the
Parade staff are equipped with cellular phones and/or radios.
ENTRY FEES
There are no entry fees.
